The past few days I was in London where I had a lot of yummy food and tried new products! One of the things I enjoyed was a blue green latte I had at Vitaorganic. It was basically almond milk with some blue green algae powder and agave or yacon syrup for sweetener. So here I tired to reproduce it! It surprisingly tastes good, and the blue green algae I used [ Klamath Blue Green/ The really Healthy Company ] claims to contain 6mcg of Vitamin B12 per gram [1 teaspoon]. Yes, you heard correctly.
Ingredients
-1 1/2 cup almond milk
-1/2 tsp blue green algae powder
-2 tbsp yacon syrup
Blend up everything and let it chil in the fridge for a while. In cold weather you can also serve it warm.
Back to London now, another place I visited was Inspiral Lounge at Camden, where they serve raw vegan ice cream, raw chocolate, raw food, vegan cake and vegan cooked food buffet style. I had a raw nut burger which was good, but needed more toppings. I also tried the ice creams and I really liked the vanilla lucuma one. They also hold cool events about raw food nutrition and more. Check their website if you plan to visit.
I also had some food at Rootmaster, a vegan home style “busstaurant” located on Elys Yard, and it’s actually an old double-decker bus! Fun and original place and good vegan food.
But the best of all the places I ate was Saf Restaurant which is of course and all vegan mostly raw restaurant with very sophisticated menu, like sweet potato cakes topped with cashew sour cream and chives caviar, herb crusted cashew cheese, spicy pad thai with smoky almond sauce and more things I didn’t get to try! Saf also offers amazing cocktails. Most of them are made with gin, and I really don’t like gin but I couldn’t even taste it in them. All of the cocktails had herbs and spices, and my favorite was “that hippie town in India” that consisted of gin, cucumber, lime, basil, cardamon and sloe gin. It was so freaking good!

Such a beautiful colored latte! You’ve inspired me to try it.
“That hippie town in India” has to be the best cocktail name EVER. And who would think to combine those ingredients!

Please tell what is yacon syrup, and what can be readily subsituted?
Yacon syrup is a thick, rich, dark caramel-y syrup made from the yacon root, cultivated in Peru. It’s extremely low-glycemic and considered a healthy sweetener. In this recipe you can substitute any sweetener. Maple syrup it closer than agave to the complex flavor of yacon. But keep in mind that yacon is thick like honey!
